We stayed in a Yurt in the middle of nowhere, Utah. And while that was epic, it was nothing compared to the breathtaking scenery of Arches and Canyonlands parks. The colors struck me most; the overwhelming umbers and siennas and cadmiums, and the olive and verte highlights; cobalt sky, titanium clouds.
In Boulder we took two hikes: first an introductory walk in Chautauqua, and then a touch hike up Mt. Sanitas. In Chautauqua we didn’t go so far, and only stopped once we were among cairns to draw. Scaling Mt Sanitas was a bit more intense, with views that were impossibly beautiful. Stopping to sketch was a perfect excuse to pause and catch our breaths, and we took advantage.
View from Sanitas
On the climb up Mt. Sanitas, we stopped on an Eastern slope. A tree was delicately bent into a gate of sorts, beckoning for us to enter.
Sullivan Owen is the talented florist whose base is across the hall from my work. Muppet is her shop cat. Sometimes she posts photos of Muppet in a beautiful flower headpiece, and sometimes I paint her.
